Very beautiful island!
Went for a day tour to Fitzroy and the ferry transfer was very good, friendly people and the transfer went very quick. It was a beautiful day. Only the Foxy bar on island was a little disappointment. We ordered a jug Mochito cocktail and that didn't taste like there was alcohol in it... and later on we ordered an pina colada and that was pineapple juice with a drop of Malibu in it. It was the worst cocktail in the world. So do not order any cocktail at the Foxy bar.
Friendly helpful crew, from picking up wrist bands in the booking office(located outside of terminal by the road) don’t go inside! Only disappointed was staff for turtle rehab taking up seating with guests having to sit on the floor. Return to cairns quick. Roof and vents downstairs need cleaning visible mould and dust. Loved the info chat on the way over with some local area info. Island was fantastic, staff not very friendly at Foxy’s bar. Fish is cooked from frozen which is disappointing considering location. Snorkelling was good. Take your own snorkelling gear for ease.
The Island was great but would highly recommend having water shoes and definitely not walking to nudey beach in thongs as it's rock stairs. I'll talk beach's/snorkeling next but first the boat. The boat over was on time and great but the boat back pulled up and took off as they spotted something and went to checkout while we were all standing in line. 30min later they come back (I had hired camera gear which was due back and I wasn't going to make it in time) than we stopped part way back for pump repair (thought they might have been covering up the fact they went walk about). We ended up getting back 1 hour later. The beach area to right of jetty infront of the bar is like a coral grave yard which was cool snorkeling out from not much but baby fish. Nudey beach was an effort to get there but well worth it, beautiful clear waters snorkeling out from the rocks, you go out a bit you come up to some boulder reef. Its got a good selection of fish, but to get a good look you need to duck dive(make sure to save some breath for hike back). The left of jetty has a shallow reef running parallel with the beach all the way too bird rock full with lots of sealife clear for anyone to see snorkeling. Keep an eye out for baby reef sharks and some of the cutes sting rays. Out from the turtle rehabilitation centre too the bird rock I got to see some bigger fish and about 4 turtles (the reason I went) amazing. Oh and just so you know the hire place for kayaks and things won't hire out after 3pm.
