We had an amazing day, with a variety of experiences. The first vineyard was our favourite; we loved the guide, she was extremely passionate and knowledgeable, but also fun and used really good analogies to explain the process. Second place had nice chocolate, but they didn't explain as much about the wine. Third place had good, big lunch and delicious cheese paired with wines. Loved the Moscato. Then we went to a distillery, loved the variety of choices. Lastly stopped by to see some kangaroos! Very impressed at the amount we squeezed in. Our driver was alright, but not as knowledgeable or charismatic as the vineyard people... His summary of Australian history was essentially "it was discovered in the 1700s and Europeans made everything better",
I had a lot of fun. Everything was perfect!
Would recommend. Had a really great time, the bus was super comfortable, lunch was delicious and a great mix of experiences in one day.
Thanks Jade, in addition to the great day, we appreciate you choosing to travel carbon neutral as well
I am a Sydney person just wanting to have a day out in the Hunter. I enjoyed it immensely. Cheeks, our driver was great fun - a very laid back, cruisey day out - no airs and graces. We left Sydney CBD approx 0720 and arrived around 1030. The De Iuliis Winery was great - we were hosted by Shaun and everyone enjoyed the location and the wine. I loved their Shiraz and their Semillon was outstanding. I bought 4 bottles and will order more online. The pub-style lunch at Hunter Valley Resort was good followed directly by wine/cheese pairing in the same location and that was really enjoyable (thanks Elloise - very interesting!). Then on to Glandore Estate Winery for wine/chocolate pairing - again, wine, chocs and location were all very enjoyable - lovely to sit outside on huge verandah doing the tasting (thanks Geoff). Then on to Hunter Distillery for gin/schnapps tastings. Loved the lychee and the passionfruit liqueurs. Back to Gordon train station approx 1900 where I took train home. It is not a 5 star experience - may not suit people who are looking for that and you would pay a lot more - but if you like cheeky banter, pub lunch, good fun - it is def for you. I felt like I had 2 days away in 1 day out. Thanks Cheeks!!
