Just a month ago I was on a boat on the Douro River in Portugal. It was pretty, no doubt. But Everglades is magical. The light on the dark, tea tree-stained water tricks the eye into seeing a tunnel of foliage, sky and clouds. You no longer know what is up or down, what is real or reflected. Even the most logical and analytical of minds is drawn into the tunnel till you are gliding along through its very centre, suspended. There's a serenity to this place, unspoiled and all-embracing.
One must not miss this experience if travelling around Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.
While it was interesting to know how the Everglades were formed the tour was quite boring. While you could hear some bird life there wasn’t much to be seen. No fish seen either. Our tour guide Sarah was enthusiastic in her commentary but thats about far as it goes. Wouldn’t recommend as value for money.
This tour had been recommended to me by my daughter who had found the tour very informative and picturesque. Unfortunately for us our tour guide, who happened to be the original owner of the tour company appeared to be very bored with taking the tour and far more interested in social chatting with the deck hand. He failed to explain what the Everglades were and how rare they were, if it wasn’t for quests asking questions ,we would hardly have learnt anything. His demeanour, attitude and indifference absolutely spoilt our cruise. I felt embarrassed for overseas travellers on the cruise , hoping that they didn’t think this was a good representation of what Australia and our tour operators can offer.

Lovely tranquil experience
The bus arrived promptly to take us to the boat. Everything was well organised. The scenery was beautiful, the skipper gave a good and amusing commentary and was happy to take any questions. We saw a koala, and many birds and at the base camp kangaroos. The mirror effects of the Everglades are gorgeous. All in all a great day out.
