Experience the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand from the peaceful silence of a hot air balloon with Adventure Balloons NZ. Based in Methven, just over an hour from Christchurch, our sunrise flights offer an unforgettable journey above the spectacular Canterbury Plains with panoramic views of Mt Hutt, the Southern Alps, braided rivers, rolling farmland, and, on clear mornings, the Pacific Ocean.
Your adventure begins before sunrise when you meet our friendly team in Methven. After a warm welcome, you'll travel with us to the launch site, chosen by your pilot to make the most of the day's weather conditions. Before take-off, you'll receive a comprehensive safety briefing and have the opportunity to help inflate the balloon—a fascinating experience that gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the art of ballooning.
As the balloon gently lifts into the morning sky, you'll drift peacefully with the wind, enjoying uninterrupted 360-degree views of Canterbury's spectacular landscapes. Unlike other forms of flight, hot air ballooning is remarkably quiet, allowing you to fully appreciate the tranquillity of the surroundings while your pilot shares local knowledge and points out landmarks along the way.
Each flight is unique, following the direction of the wind and offering a different perspective every time you fly. During the journey, you'll have plenty of opportunities to take incredible photographs and simply relax as you float effortlessly above one of New Zealand's most beautiful regions.
After approximately one hour in the air, your pilot will make a gentle landing where our ground crew will be waiting to greet you. Celebrate your adventure with a traditional post-flight drink while sharing stories of your flight before returning to Methven.

Flying high
Wonderful experience, breathtaking 360’ views. Learned about the set-up and pack-up which was interesting. Would definitely recommend this experience!

시작부터 30분 시작시간 늦춰진거 연락안와서 밖에서 생고생 아침이라 얼어 죽을뻔. 만나서 열기구 탑승하고 점차 올라가니 뷰도 좋고 날도 좋고 너무좋음. 조종수 분이 어르신이였는데 높이 올라가더니 쓰러지심. 너무 당황해서 앉게하고 쉬게 하니 좀 나아지셨는지 다시 괜찮다고 하시는데 속으로 욕밖에 안나옴. 분위기 조지고 바로 착륙하자했는데 착륙포인트까지 가야해서 어쩔수 없이 탐. 다른 승객 걱정되서 남김니다.

Mega nettes Team
Wir haben ein wenig später angefangen aufgrund des Wetters. Kommunikation hat immer gestimmt, die Veranstalter hatten einen guten Humor und es hat sich nicht angefühlt wie Host und Customer sondern wie eine Team Aktivität. Man nimmt richtig Teil am aufbauen und abbauen und das Gefühl dann endlich abzuheben und diesen fantastischen Ausblick zu haben ist unbezahlbar!!! Ich empfehle es jeden, der nach einem neuen Nervenkitzel sucht und die Ruhe und friedliche eines entspannten Ausblicks während des Fluges Wertschätzt. It’s definitely worth it!!!
