Embark on a cosmic adventure in the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, then unwind in the soothing hot pools of Tekapo Springs during the day.

This 60-minute guided stargazing experience uses powerful telescopes to reveal stars, planets, and galaxies while our expert guides bring the night sky to life through astronomy, storytelling, and Māori legends. Every ticket also includes a daytime pass to Tekapo Springs, where you can relax in steaming hot pools surrounded by stunning alpine views.

When weather conditions limit telescope viewing, the experience continues with an immersive Virtual Reality journey through the southern skies, exploring constellations, galaxies, and celestial wonders from a unique perspective.

With unforgettable night skies, fascinating stories, and the chance to relax in our hot pools, Scope at the Stars is a must-do Lake Tekapo experience.

    Please check-in 15mins prior at Tekapo Springs reception for all bookings. When conditions are unsuitable for telescope viewing, guests will experience an immersive indoor Virtual Reality journey through the southern skies, exploring constellations, galaxies and Maori star stories from a unique perspective.

    Please note that our tour start times change seasonally to accommodate the sunset. You will receive a confirmation email from Tekapo Star Gazing that states your tour start time within 2 days of making your purchase on BookMe.

    On nights when cloud or other conditions makes outdoor stargazing impossible or unsafe, or you get less than 30 minutes of scope-time, we provide a customised indoor virtual reality experience showcasing the Lake Tekapo night skies and a refund equal to 25% of the amount paid for each ticket will be granted at the end of your touras recognition that you didnt get a clear-sky telescope night.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    Any cancellations made within 24 hours of the start time of the tour will not be eligible for a refund. Bookings can be rescheduled any time up until 24 hours before the start time of your tour.

    If you do not show for your tour (noshow), your booking isnon-refundable and non-transferable.

  • Cloudy Weather Refunds:

Absolutely Incredible

This experience was fantastic. From the free warm drinks that we had on arrival to the blankets offered to keep you warm, every little thing was thought about to ensure comfort and happiness. The experience itself was breathtaking. The guides were so knowledgeable and they made learning about the starts and constellations so interesting and engaging. I would recommend this experience to anyone and everyone.
