An intact example of 19th century suburban high life, the National Heritage Listed Rippon Lea Estate is like a suburb all to itself, an authentic Victorian mansion amidst 14 acres of breathtaking gardens.
Enjoy exploring the sweeping heritage grounds complete with a picturesque lake and waterfall, an original 19th-century fruit orchard and the largest fernery in the Southern Hemisphere.
Plus, keep your eyes peeled for the Gruffalo’s latest hideout. Open all year, Rippon Lea Estate is Victoria’s grandest backyard.
Great day out with the kids! Beautiful gardens and lots to see.
A short drive from Melbourne CBD, the historic property is worth a visit. Rippon Lea Estate offers a rich history combined with well-maintained gardens. Recommended for great experience.
This was THE most amazing garden I have EVER seen! I was in awe - had no idea that estate was simply in a suburb in Melbourne. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who keep it so beautiful for the public to enjoy. My tip is to go in the afternoon during the week outside of school holidays so you get to have it basically to yourself. The house tour was also brilliant with different rooms decorated from different eras . You can do the downstairs servants area without being on a tour ant that was so interesting.
We enjoyed walking around the gardens. A lovely way to spend an afternoon. We didn’t have time for the house tour, so we will return another time.
