Escape the crowds and discover the magic of Mou Waho Island.
Where you can find an island, on a lake, on an island, on a lake, on an island on the sea!
Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many native New Zealand birds including the curious and flightless Weka. A short thirty minute walk takes you to the top of the island where you will be exposed to breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wanaka and its surrounding peaks.
Bring your swimwear and take a dip in the stunning lake on the top of the island, or in Lake Wanaka!
Our water taxi leaves Wanaka Marina twice-daily travelling 15km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliff of fisherman's cove to Mou Waho Island. Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters. Enjoy 1.5 hours exploring the Island and hiking to the hidden lake!
We've been wanting to do the trip for ages. We picked a pearler of an afternoon. James was a great guide, very informative on the boat ride over. We were allowed plenty of time to explore and enjoy the amazing scenery. Really glad to tick this off the list. Almost teenage kids also had fun on the island!
James was a great guide, very knowledgeable & easy to talk to. Happy to answer any questions. Was a great day didn’t feel rushed a very fun day out.
What a fabulous wee trip. So lucky to live where we live! Crystal our skipper was super engaging and informative and in no hurry which just made the day. Thank you!!
One of the best things to do in Wanaka, and Water Taxis were a great supplier with lots of information and happy to answer all our questions.
