Mou Waho Island is a protected nature reserve and is home to many native New Zealand birds including the curious and flightless Weka. A short thirty minute walk takes you to the top of the island where you will be exposed to breathtaking panoramic views of the Arethusa pool, Lake Wanaka and its surrounding peaks.
Bring your swimwear and take a dip in the stunning lake on the top of the island, or in Lake Wanaka!
Our water taxi leaves Wanaka Marina twice-daily travelling 15km up Lake Wanaka, passing Mou Tapu Island and the steep cliff of fisherman's cove to Mou Waho Island. Your friendly and knowledgeable skipper will inform you of the fascinating geology of the alps and the glaciers that created the lake as you travel along its sparkling waters. Enjoy 1.5 hours exploring the Island and hiking to the hidden lake!

Amazing Highlight of my trip!
I went in mid September and we were very lucky to have perfect sunny weather. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and showed us some local wildlife like a weta insect I would never have noticed for myself. The view from the top of the island is breathtaking and a highlight for me was swimming in the little lake on the island. It was freezing but a lovely adventure! Would definitely recommend this excursion!

Amazing Wanaka
The water taxi was really thrilling, particularly when you sit in the front of the water taxi. The island was a great trek of moderate intensity. Overall an enjoyable experience. I found this better than MILFORD SOUND

Great afternoon trip
We popped over from Queenstown to celebrate our daughters 13th birthday. Great boat trip over to the island, about 45 minutes with information given on the way. Lots of places to explore on the island. Tracks might be a bit challenging for some. Fantastic way to see Wanaka from another angle.
