The trip out to the island was great, with a running commentary of the history of the island from the captain of the ferry. We got to see quite a bit more than just the straight run to Mansion House by doing the Mail Run trip. We enjoyed lunch at the cafe after arriving, followed by a walk up to the lookout. It was great to have a choice to depart at either 2pm or 4:30pm. We decided to chill out at the cafe after our walk and enjoy the lovely surroundings and the wildlife (included a few peacocks and Wekas), leaving on the later return ferry trip. I can highly recommend doing this trip if people have not done it. It can be done inside a day, leaving from Auckland.
