Family Adventures Rafting - Queenstown

We are specialists in soft adventure trips rafting the gentle upper reaches of the famous Shotover River. Suitable for everyone from 3 years old. Water confidence is not necessary!

Highlights

  • Queenstowns only rafting company dedicated to families
  • Complimentary transport, snacks and refreshments
  • Outstanding scenery

Our trip by bus and raft kicks off with a drive into the famous Skippers Canyon - quite possibly the most scenic drive in NZ! The views are astounding and the area is jam-packed with history and gold mining relics. Our knowledgeable guides will enthral you with tales from the colourful gold mining past.

We will kit you out with all the rafting gear you'll need to keep you warm and safe from the ground up at our base beside the historic Pipeline built back in 1864. We take to the water at our put-in point made famous as 'The ford of Bruinen' in the Lord of the Rings movie, and float down gentle grade 1 & 2 rapids for 1-1.5 hours taking in the scenery, the gold mining relics and even making time for a swim or rock jump!

We are the only raft company in Queenstown allowed to carry children under 13 years due to the gentle nature of our trip. We have specialised equipment, qualified raft guides, are a Member of the NZ Rafting Association and are a Maritime NZ audited activity.

Great family fun

Highly recommend for families travelling in NZ. Was adventurous enough for my 4 year old who loved jumping off the rocks, and bumpy / scenic enough the for the adults to also enjoy themselves. The guides were great, with stellar das jokes from Mark. If you’re a domestic tourist traveling this year, definitely give them your support. You won’t be disappointed!

Mark will be happy that you liked his dad jokes, he's the biggest kid on the river. Thank you for your kind review. :)

Great trip - lived up to expectations.

Thank you crew for extra care for man in moon boot. Had a lovely time with family. Refreshing stream for a quick float down the river. Big boy wanted to be drenched more often. Perhaps option to swap spots at half way point for those that want to change for extra thrills. Highly recommendable for family. Base camp (change room/locker) hut has fantastic view.

Thank you for your review, We do try our best to give families the opportunity to move around the raft, especially when we have to put multiple groups together. Sorry that this didn't happen on this occasion, next time you guys visit, you can have the pick of the rafts! ;)

Fun

Water rafting experience was good. More of a description of the levels should be made on site as it was too easy for us. Tour guide was very friendly, funny and engaging. However, we were attacked by sandflies throughout the entire trip and wasn’t warned about prior to trip or offered bug spray despite them knowing about it and them having their own sprays to use on themselves.

Hi, Thanks for your review, below is a statement from our website, describing our trip. 'We take to the water at the "Ford of Bruinen" made famous by the Lord of the Rings movie. We then enjoy a gentle scenic excursion packed with fun for everyone from 3 - 103 (older by arrangement). We float down gentle Grade 1 & 2 rapids only (takes approx 1-1.5 hours on the river). On the way see gold mining relics, sheer canyon walls and get to play on the odd rock jump.' Unfortunately we cannot control the sand flies and every day is different, we have spray at the beach for customers to use whilst we are going through our safety talk, I'm sorry if you wasn't made aware of this.
