Discover and uncover the secrets of Lord of the Rings locations on the amazing Half Day Lord of the Rings Tour.

You get to visit various filming locations for the Lord of the Rings trilogy with an entertaining and knowledgeable guide who will bring the stories to life, share secrets about how locations were transformed into Middle Earth, and even let you re-live the action through your very own camera!

You handle and photograph over $15,000 worth of weapons and costumes and create your very own fantasy adventure film!

On this tour, experience the spectacular landscapes of featured films such as The Argonath (Pillars of the King), The Gladden Fields and The Ford of Bruinen. Learn about the history of gold mining while visiting the picturesque Arrowtown.

We travel in small groups for a personal and interactive experience. Enjoy a full commentary of the beautiful areas you will travel through and hear all the LotR stories and gossip!

Notes

  • Departures: 8am or 1.30pm

    Age Restriction: Children under 7 must have a child seat by NZ law. You are welcome to bring your own, or please note this in the special requirements field at checkout to arrange a rental.

    Please Note:

    • Pick Up: Outside the Queenstown Station Information Centre (corner of Shotover and Camp Street). If you require a different pickup address this may be possible for an additional charge. Please contact us to arrange.
    • If you are bringing young children on this trip, please bring something to occupy them, like an iPad, just in case they are not as into the tour as you might be.
    • Unfortunately, our tour does not cater for people in wheelchairs, as our buses do not have a specialised lift.
    • There is some walking involved in this tour on dirt tracks and the like, please wear suitable shoes.

half day tour - perfect amount of time and so much fun, great way to experience the area around queenstown, benji was amazing with an infinite amount of knowledge about the area and lotr, as well as being a fun nice guy to chat to!

Excellent tour, knowledgeable, enthusiastic guide

This was a great tour, Ben, our guide, knew lots of behind-the-scenes stories, gave us lots of quizzes along the way that brought out his "nerd factor" and that of the other guests. We did another LOTR tour with Pure Glenorchy Scenic Lord of the Rings Tours the day before and there was no overlap at all so that was great. They were also able to pick us up in Arrowtown (where we were staying) partway through the tour, saving us the trip back to Queenstown. The props and dress-up is pretty much the same, but Trails of Middle Earth - Lord of the Rings Sightseeing Tours had cool script and location notes that added a lot to the experience. Highly recommended.
