Explore Queenstown's beautiful Lake Wakatipu on board a vintage steamship (TSS Earnslaw, 1912) and enjoy a delicious gourmet BBQ lunch at Walter Peak High Country Farm.
*Please note the TSS Earnslaw will be on survey from 4th - 29th June 2024 - a replacement vessel will be used during this period - thank you*
Your afternoon begins with a magical cruise across Lake Wakatipu aboard the TSS Earnslaw, a vintage steamship launched in 1912 and rich in local pioneering history. She is the only hand-fired commercial passenger carrying vessel in the Southern Hemisphere.
Arriving at Walter Peak High Country Farm on the opposite side of the lake it is time to disembark for the ambience of the Colonel’s Homestead Restaurant situated in beautiful gardens.
The menu includes an extensive range of local and New Zealand produce, succulent meats cooked on the rotisserie, a delicious range of vegetables and salads. Then finish with your dining experience with tantalising desserts, cheeses and freshly brewed tea and coffee.
Following lunch, guests have the opportunity to gain insight into high country life with an entertaining and informative farm demonstration, or explore the beautiful lakeside gardens. A quintessential Kiwi experience combined with the elegance of a bygone era.
The entertainment continues on the spectacular night-time cruise home, where you can join in on a sing-a-long with the ship's pianist or just enjoy the fresh air and stunning views on the deck as the sparkling lights of Queenstown draw closer.
My family of three enjoyed this boat trip. The meal and views at Walter Peak were spectacular. I would highly recommend
A great way to spend the afternoon in Queenstown. Sit back, relax and enjoy the most beautiful scenery on the way and back. Staff friendly and good options for snacks and drink. At Walter Peak Island we had the most amazing BBQ buffet and what a nice spread! The selection of the food was fantastic and so tasty. Never seen sheepherding, then you must see this farm show! Mia, the dog was fast, so smart and efficient at herding the sheep. You also see the shearing of a sheep and hear lots of interesting info about sheep and herding. All in all, worth every cent!! What a great experience!!!
Excellent hosts and lunch. Farm show was great. The whole experience was spoilt by unruly, rude, loud and ignorant Chinese who shouted, pushed, took every seat on the boat and talked through all announcements and the dog show. Twice my wife was roughly pushed aside. Perhaps guides that can assist them with local culture and manners would help?
The lunch is very delicious and the buffet is abundant. The farm show is interesting, too.

Lovely food and breathtaking views
Had a lovely time on cruise, food was excellent and breathtaking views. Only complaint is that when we arrived at Walter Peak for the BBQ lunch the receptionist was a bit rude when I asked if we could sit outside because it was such a lovely sunny day which we don’t had much of. Her response was do what ever you want no one is listening anyway. But not one’s was there an announcement made of what the rules are for sitting outside.
