Very unique area
Awesome walk through such a unique thermal valley with boiling water, geysers, stalactites in waterfalls, gorgeous range of colours from the turquoise blue lake to the blue green algae and yellow sulphur flats. It was also really convenient to have the bus shuttle us back to the carpark so we didn’t have to walk back. Highly recommend visiting Waimangu!

Absolutely amazing
Waimangu is an absolute must-do if you are traveling in the Rotorua area. Less crowded than Wai-o-tapu and more the experience feels more nature based. The walk guides you through 3 different areas that are each unique in their own way. Afterwards you can take the bus back to the visitor centre so the walk is doable if you dont have a high fitness level.

Nice experience
Nice walk down the valley with interesting facts on supplied guide map. Bus ride back to cafe fabulous as it was a very hot day. Important to keep an eye on bus timing to reduce wait times. All staff were fabulous

Must see
It was fascinating walking through the valley. Great value for money with discount, two hours easy walking, quite warm even with drizzle, return by shuttle bus.

Unforgettable, raw, and breathtaking.
Waimangu is one of those rare places that leaves you completely awestruck not just by its natural beauty, but by its sense of mystery and ancient power. Walking through this geothermal valley feels like stepping into another world, where the earth is very much alive beneath your feet. From steaming crater lakes to bubbling springs, lush native bush, and panoramic views that stop you in your tracks every turn on the trail is a surprise. The highlight for me was Frying Pan Lake, the world’s largest hot spring, it’s surreal to see steam rising off a lake surrounded by birdsong and greenery. The walking tracks are really well laid out, and you can choose the level of walk that suits your energy. There’s also a shuttle if you want to skip the uphill climb at the end. The staff were so friendly and informative you can feel how much they care about this incredible ecosystem. If you’re in Rotorua or nearby, this is an absolute must-do. It’s peaceful, powerful, and humbling, a living reminder of how dynamic and sacred the land really is.
