The West Coast Wildlife Centre is an all weather visitor attraction located in Franz Josef, presenting rare Kiwi in an authentic environment.
The Center was most interesting and informative.
Interesting exhibition and seeing live Kiwis made it worthwhile. Good cafe with plenty of choice
In contrast with the brochure and general information to be found on the website, as of march 2025, you were not able to see the "World rarest kiwi" but some Kiwi species from north island, thus leading to a conclusion that this site is not unique in the terms of kiwi species. Of course they did not inform you about it, you have to ask (it is - they hand you "world rarest kiwi" brochure, you go to the dark room to see the GSK)
Great to see the 2 kiwis they had there…we got it at a good time so we were alone with them for a while. Still pretty expensive for a walk through though however all goes to supporting the centre I guess.

A place that you can see kiwi
The center is not a big one but you will get a chance to see kiwi moving around. Staff are very friendly though.
