If you're looking for adventure off the beaten track, you can't beat the Milford Track. This famous hike attracts locals and visitors alike from all over the world, boasting spectacular scenery and views.
Delight in birdsong from resident grey warblers, bellbirds and even tui, with mighty Beech and Rimu trees flourishing. You can also walk to the iconic Giant Gates Falls - the perfect location for a picnic and swim in the pools.
With regular, reliable service that travels every half hour, you can plan the day around your own agenda, stop and see the sights and make the most of this spectacular day walk experience!
How it works
- Step 1: Depart from Milford Sound: A 10-minute boat journey from Deepwater Basin in Milford Sound across to Sandfly Point, Milford Track.
- Step 2 : Walk the Milford Track: At your own pace, walk the Milford Track. Sandfly Point to Giant Gate Falls is an 11-kilometre return walk and will take 3-4 hours.
- Step 3: Return to Milford Sound: Meet the boat at Sandfly Point for your return journey to Deepwater Basin, Milford Sound between 12pm - 4.30pm.

Great expérience !

Definitely worth doing
Really nice, friendly and knowledgeable water taxi driver, beautiful track to walk on - a bit harder to run on unless you're an experienced trail runner

Water taxi
Experience was great, knowledgeable driver who gave us lots of information within this 10 min and detoured to beautiful waterfall in the way to Sandfly. Also the time of departure/return was flexible as the weather was rough, the boat continued to go both ways through the day. I booked the tickets a day before so I have not received the instruction regarding getting there on time( turn left before airport and yes! the departure site is at the end of this road), so book your ticket few days in advance.

Lovely day walk
Was a nice and quiet walk, mostly flat. Waterfall had not much water in May but the path was lovely and saw many birds on the way. The water way itself was a lovely landscape.
