Rachael said... We visited with 5 young children (aged 3–5, plus a baby) and unfortunately didn't have a great experience. We were strongly encouraged to do the guided tour and told it was great for kids. For children our age, it really wasn't — there was a lot of standing and listening and they quickly lost interest, so we ended up taking them outside rather than disrupting the other visitors. The self-guided walk was much better for a family with preschool-aged children, noting that there is no discount for not attending the tour. Unfortunately, what really soured the day was the way we were spoken to by a staff member afterwards when we stopped to buy the kids ice creams. The children were excited and a bit noisy, but the way the staff member spoke to us was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. We were actively encouraged (we being families with young children) to visit and take the guided tour, so you would expect there to also be some patience and understanding that young children will behave like young children. I wouldn't recommend the guided tour for families with preschoolers based on our experience, and unfortunately the way we were treated afterwards means I wouldn't be keen to return at all.
