On our guided tour, you'll:

  • Discover in an authentic Māori village where daily life revolves around natural geothermal resources, used for cooking, bathing, and heating homes for centuries.
  • Witness the awe-inspiring geothermal wonders of Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley, including the iconic Pōhutu geyser, boiling mud-pools, and steam vents.
  • Learn about the challenges and traditions of living in a geothermal plateau, from cooking in bubbling pools to bathing in therapeutic waters.
  • Explore historical landmarks like our active Marae, WWII Memorial Archway, historic churches, and tapu burial grounds.

  • Child price applies to ages 5-15 years, entry is free for under 5's.

    Please note there is no access to the geysers from the village - they are viewed from our two lookout platforms.

    Guided tours of 1 hour are available daily at 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm & 3pm. Book early as there is a maximum of 20-30 guests per tour to ensure the Safety and Enjoyment of all Visitors.

    PLEASE BE AWARE DISCOUNTS ARE FOR ENTRY ONLY AND RELATE TO THE SPECIFIC ENTRY TIME PURCHASED. FOR EXAMPLE; A 3:00PM TICKET IS NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENTER THE VILLAGE BEFORE 3:00PM ON THE DAY OF ADMISSION. DISCOUNTED TICKETS ARE NON REFUNDABLE & NON TRANSFERABLE.

Very Informative

Our guide was great. With this 1 hour tour you just walk through the communal part of the village and look at the geysers from a distance. Up close at the hot pools and the cooking and bathing areas. Lots of information and your ticket gets you all day access, you can go and come back if you have other tours booked but didn'tget to see the geysers go off,, but you are restricted from up close to the geysers. Great value if booked throught bookme with a discount. Good in the rain but bring an umbrella.

Rude guide

Nice to see and experience geothermal activities but the same cant be said about the lady guid we had how was quite rude and so full of her self and her culture which frankly we were not too interested in, will never be going back or taking any of my visitors there again.

Loved it

Great activity. Tour guide had so much knowledge of the local area and its history. The show was awesome and the part where they sang Pokarekare Ana was so beautiful it moved me to tears. I’ve heard this song my whole life but never knew the history and the meaning until our visit. And the performers were incredible. We also did the self tour after the guided tour and wow so much geo thermal activity. But what I remember from what the guide said, “they live in such a way to coexist with the land not to rape and pillage from it”. Loved the experience!
